This refers to the editorial, “India’s diplomatic victory” (May 5). It is satisfying that the United Nations Security Council has taken seriously the release of 26/11 mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman lakhvi from a Pakistani prison. The United States, Russia, Britain and France have already criticised Pakistan for letting out lakhvi. Hence, it can be expected that the UNSC will also take a strong stance. However, will this mood be torrid enough for Pakistan to feel the heatIJ
lakhvi is not only a criminal in India but is also a UN-designated terrorist. David Headley, 26/11 co-conspirator, who was arrested in the United States, has given enough evidence that shows lakhvi planned the Mumbai attacks. Despite this, the latter has been released from prison, so that he can move about freely and ostensibly plan more terror attacks in India and across the world. The UNSC’s status itself is going to be tested in the manner in which it handles lakhvi’s case.
