This refers to the editorial, “Virat Kohli phenomenon” (March 29). Virat Kohli's breathtaking performance against Australia in the T20 World Cup Cricket in Mohali was a visual treat to relish. The glorious game of uncertainties has certainly covered him in glory. His batting, with unerring precision, left the mighty Australians completely clueless. His match-winning knock of 82 runs from a mere 51 balls will go down as one of the finest innings in the shortest format of cricket, not so much for India's win but for its aesthetics.
Kohli is sure to sustain popular interest in cricket and retain India's place as one of the top countries in international cricket. He showed the grace to allow his captain to hit the winning shot, endearing himself to all those watched him in his element at the crease. While he deserves all the praise, it is unnecessary to rate him as high as Don Bradman, Vivian Richards, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian lara and Ricky Ponting. We should be content with saying that the new Indian star is all set to become one of the all-time greats.
