KJ Yesudas needs to move with the times

Published on:

It is shocking that famous singer KJ Yesudas has objected to women wearing jeans. It is a laughable objection. The times have changed. For example, these days newspaper advertisements depict models in a manner that their body contours are clearly visible. This was unimaginable even a few years ago. In short, what may have been objectionable some years ago may have become completely acceptable today. Standards change, levels of acceptability change. These days, both young mothers and daughters wear modern clothes. They do not find anything wrong with that nor do their menfolk stop them. All have accepted the changes.

Moreover, what one should wear is a personal choice. But there are some people, the self-appointed champions of civil society, who engage in moral policing through cultural and political organisations. They frequently object to the clothes worn by women and even men in schools, colleges and clubs. This must end.
