Kejriwal must give up confrontationist ways

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “No end to confrontations” (July 22). One thought that a massive mandate would infuse a new-found maturity in Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. However, Mr Kejriwal has chosen to take the opposite way, unmindful of the adverse public perception against his actions. Fighting with the Delhi Police Commissioner, even after knowing that the latter does not report to him according to rules, is not the correct way to argue for Delhi's statehood. A Chief Minister should be aware of the protocol and decorum that guide his office.

People who hold responsible posts should be aware of their responsibilities. Meaningful dialogue with the Union Government would have done Mr Kejriwal's image a lot of good. The last thing the people of Delhi can afford is a confrontationist and an adamant Chief Minister.  Mr Kejriwal must concentrate on his administrative work and leave the omissions and commissions of Delhi police for the people to decide.
