Kathmandu must address Madhesis' concerns

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “Crippling blockade over” (February 10). The United Democratic Madhesi Front’s decision to end blockade, to allow the movement of essential goods, which includes fuel from India into Nepal, is a prudent move and a step in the right direction. This five-month old blockade had paralysed not only normal life across Nepal,  but trade between India and Nepal too was hanging fire. A long-lasting solution to the problem lies in maintaining cordial relations between New Delhi and Kathmandu.

Even as the lifting of the blockade has paved the way for Nepalese Prime Minister KPS Oli’s visit to India, New Delhi must do away with the false allegations of its involvement in the blockade. As for Nepal, the onus lies on the Oli Government to reach out to the Madhesis and address their concern in an inclusive manner rather than display chauvinism and level allegations against India.
