Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Shun conspiracy theories” (December 23). The Income Tax raids at the Chennai home and office of sacked Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary P Rama Mohan Rao is cogently appropriate. Post-demonetisation, the Income Tax department has been duty-bound to conduct raids on dubious companies, traders and bureaucrats to unearth black money. The department has traced huge amounts of undeclared assets and monies kept with fraudsters. If disproportionate wealth and assets had not been discovered from the sacked Chief Secretary and his son, the raid could have been called a futile exercise only on political expediency.
