This refers to the article, “Crimes against women: Debunking perception” (February 27) by Balbir Punj. Incidents of rape, molestation, ragging, teasing, lynching and bullying cannot be stopped so long as violence is allowed to be sold as a form of entertainment and the victims of violence are allowed to be branded as weak, yellow etc. Sadly, India ranked 141 out of 163 countries in the 2016 Global Peace Index. Violence is as regressive as it gets. Even a machine
cannot work if its parts are not in harmony with one another.
Unfortunately, violence remains a marketable commodity, especially by our reel world, where eve-teasing is promoted as courtship! Given the prevalent scenario of rampant violence against gender, caste and race, which is an indicator of our macho sadistic mindset, such glorification of savagery needs to be censored. It’s time to reflect on how quickly and effectively we can deliver on justice to nip the menace.
