Sir — The decision of a CBI court to convict former Bihar Chief Minister lalu Prasad along with another former Chief Minister, Jagannath Mishra of the Congress, and a few others in a fodder scam-related case, is an exemplary landmark decision (though it took 17 long years). One now hopes that the quantum of sentencing is such that it will disqualify lalu Prasad from contesting the lok Sabha election for a long time and bring an end to his tainted political career. This is what such people deserve.
Until now, it seemed that high-profile and powerful politicians were above the law. Even the fodder case dragged on for more than 15 years because the powerful politicians used every trick in the legal book to delay the inevitable. Now, a similar verdict must come in the case of all the other recent scams that involve politicians. This will effectively convince the people that the law applies equally to all, not just on paper but also in reality.
