Sir — This refers to the article, “Policy-making too complex an issue” (October 4) by Ashutosh Senger. Undoubtedly, policy-making is paramount for nation-building. However, a number of lawmakers in our country are lawbreakers and, therefore, the judiciary’s intervention in policies of the nation is inevitable.
Moreover, many policies in our country are ambiguous, and against the bona fide interests of the people. Political parties are concerned about their overall hegemony in the country. People’s welfare is a secondary affair for them. It is, therefore, essential that the judiciary holds an unassailable power and the right to verify the laws passed by legislatures. This practice cannot be termed as judicial activism.
