Sir — Viewed against eminent jurist and former judge Krishna Iyer’s oft-quoted saying that ‘bail is the rule and jail is an exception’, a Karnataka High Court judge’s denial of bail to convicted Jayalalithaa may have come as more than a surprise to not only to her fans and political supporters but also many legal pundits.
However, as law-abiding citizens, we should compliment our judiciary for its bold judgements. A strong and fearless judiciary acts in the interest of the nation.
