Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Free but responsible too” (January 20). The editorial rightly stresses the need for restraint and self-censorship within media, especially on sensitive matters like coverage of terror attacks. It is distressing to see how media channels have, on certain occasions, jeopardised national security, even if inadvertently, for the sake of higher ratings.
It is also a matter of concern that, instead reporting criminal events, news anchors don the role of policemen. Sometimes, they even pronounce judgements on matters that are sub judice.
