Joint efforts needed to resolve Kashmir issue

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “School-burning terror” (November 3). The only solution to the ever-growing turmoil in the valley is sound education, which can provide youth the much-needed employment opportunity. As it is, schools were closed ever since the death of Burhan Wani. Now, the burning of Government schools has come as a huge blow to the State Government’s effort to restore normalcy.

The situation in the  valley is grave and can have serious consequences. The only solution is that Governments in New Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir together draw out a plan to ensure that every school-going child is provided with safe schooling closer home. Parents, after the recent incidents, will be reluctant to send their wards to the temple of education. Closer and continuous dialogue with locals on part of the State Government and local administration is the need of hour. The situation is fast turning out to be quite similar to what it used to be in the 1990s.
