J&K imbroglio

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “More winds of change” (December 24). Though the BJP has created history in both Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir, its performance failed to meet the predictions and its own estimates. The party should analyse why its development agenda and anti-incumbency failed to deliver the expected gains. In Jharkhand, it’s going to be a coalition Government, though with a pre-poll ally, the All Jharkhand Students Union. In Jammu & Kashmir, the party’s performance in the valley has shown that the BJP’s aggressive drive did not cut any ice among the voters. It failed even in ladakh.

While the special status has not benefited the State in general and Jammu and ladakh regions in particular, there is a strong sense in the valley against the abrogation of Article 370. But the BJP should not compromise on its core ideals and must convince the people that joining the mainstream is the only way for the development of the State.
