This refers to the article, “Despondency and death in the valley” (July 19) by Deepak Sinha. It is distressing that Kashmir is on the boil. Those familiar with Kashmir’s history must be aware that violence in Jammu & Kashmir comes in waves. The problem arises due to insincere and inept polity. Unrest in Kashmir reveals the failures of the ruling PDP-BJP Government. To be fair to the security forces, they have faced exceptional ferocity from groups of young people. Slogans are becoming the main instigators of violence even though sloganeering has been a part of long cherished history of the world.
Peace can be achieved only by sincerely addressing the grievances. Tourism is main business in Jammu & Kashmir which gives employment and business to the local people. This business can flourish only when there is peace and tranquility. It is the responsibility of every citizen to cooperate with the Government as well as the Armed Forces to make the valley peaceful. Good governance and good policy can address the problem in the border State.
