This refers to the editorial, “Tackling J&K problem” (May 1). It is distressing that the valley is always on the boil. The issue of Kashmir is a chronic one, and has festered nearly three quarters of a century. Those familiar with Kashmir’s history would be aware that violence in Jammu & Kashmir generally tends to come in waves. The Centre and State Governments deliberately remain silent till the situation boils and bursts. There is an urgent need to study the Kashmir issue in depth and provide a lasting solution.
Should not the problem be solved with an open mindIJ Unless there is a political process to address the aspirations, the cycle of violence will never abate. Countries across the world must unite to fight terror so that innocent people of Kashmir can live in peace and not in pieces. It should also be the responsibility of every citizen to cooperate with the Government as well as the Armed forces in the way of making Jammu & Kashmir terror free and peaceful. Good governance and good policy will address the problem to a very large extent.
