This refers to the article, “Now coming together, now falling apart” (April 27) by Rajesh Singh. The very idea of formation of a block of heterogeneous elements to grab power is repulsive and indicative of the fact that our leaders have not taken lessons on democracy. They are still steeped in the old-age cauldron of caste and religion, whereby they want to arithmetically add their caste votes with those of others, while the electorate has moved on. They will, therefore, have to do something new to establish mass credibility.
Since they have acknowledged that individually they are no match to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and thus accepted defeat, they must bring down their self-imagined tall position and elect one of them whom they consider tallest of them and form a political party under his/her leadership. As a second step, they should place before the electorate an alternative narrative in respect of various areas like economic and fiscal, foreign policy and defence to name a few. Only, then, the electorate will consider them as serious contender of power.
