It takes two to tango

Sir — This refers to the article, “Delinking talks with terror leads nowhere” (September 4) by Ashok K Mehta. On the face of it, the new civilian Government of Pakistan has adopted a friendly approach to improve its relations with India, but the hidden agenda is the same: Wrest Kashmir by getting the UN resolution on Kashmir and not the Shimla pact, implemented.

If Pakistan really wants peace with India, then it should begin by recognising the line of Control as the international border; accord ‘most favoured nation’ status to India and allow Indian goods to Afghanistan through Pakistan. Else, all talks are futile. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should not hold talks with the Pakistani Prime Minister in New York, in view of the frequent ceasefire violations at the loC.
