This refers to the editorial, “The restive Arab youth” (August 11). Gone are the golden days when youths around the world would be hankering for jobs with enticing emoluments in the Arab countries. Global economic slowdown has not spared even the oil-rich countries. Hence, restlessness among the Arab youth, facing lack of employment on their turfs, is but natural. While this dicey plight may be exploited by some vested interests against the ruling regimes over there, the intensity of this restive trend was evident from the Tehrir Square episode.
Arguably, unemployment is the root cause of many social ills, including crimes of sorts. In comparison to their brethren in advanced Western nations, these youths in Arab countries find themselves underrated. It is time to bring some drastic changes in the haggard and traditional ways that are now pale in comparison to the fast digital globalisation. Hence, the suggestion that it is high time to prevent these youths from taking to any ill-willed gestures.
