This refers to the article, “The Congress needs Priyanka to win in UP” (July 8) by Kalyani Shankar. The grand old party may believe that Congress scion Priyanka Vadra will turn their fortune in Uttar Pradesh, but in reality, she is nothing, but the last trump card. Despite her being the main face for the 2012 Assembly polls, the Congress was routed in its strongholds in Amethi and Rae Bareli. At best, Priyanka Vadra can gather crowds because of her charm, but nothing more than that. So, the Congress should not live in a dillusion.
Further, I do not agree with the writer's view that Priyanka Vadra can be a game-changer for the Congress and it's political strategist Prashant Kishor who are counting on her to win the 2017 Uttar Pradesh election. The party must accept the fact that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is a spent-force and a liability. Therefore, what it needs is a new face, but not a Gandhi anymore.
