This refers to the report, “Introspect if terror and invitations go hand in hand: Tewari to BJP” (May 23). Former Union Minister Manish Tewari has mocked the Bharatiya Janata Party for extending an invitation to Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for Mr Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony. Will Mr Tewari explain why Mr Salman Khurshid, the then Foreign Minister, had gone overboard in meeting with and hosting a lavish lunch for former Pakistan Prime Minister Raza Parvez Ashraf, when the latter was only visiting Ajmer Sharif on a purely personal pilgrimage, and the visit had absolutely nothing official about itIJ
If anything, relations with Pakistan were far more critical at that time than they are now. Mr Khurshid reportedly claimed that it was done at the behest of Mr Manmohan Singh. That would only make the comparison worse. The Congress carries its double standards too far, and any stick is good enough for it to beat the BJP, it would seem.
