This refers to the article, “Modi's foreign policy: Realism at the core” by Rajesh Singh (June 16). The writer is correct in praising the peace-loving, climatic-friendly, anti-terrorism foreign policy of Narendra Modi. The first Prime Minister of independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru, founded an idealistic non-aligned foreign policy — which was, in fact, pro-Union of Soviet Socialist Republics but claimed to be neutral, which was not pragmatic and antagonised the US. Although Israel became independent in 1948, it took more than four decades for India to have diplomatic relations with this friendly, helping, technologically sound and influential country which came to India's rescue several times in the past in terms of arms, agriculture and other needs when required.
The Congress, in its zeal to appease a particular community in India and in the name of secularism, was partial towards West Asian Arab states and neglected Israel for long. Prime Minister Modi is friendly towards the Arabs as well as Israel is to the nation’s advantage. It’s to protect Indian security interests and promote anti-terrorist policies, check Pakistan and expose its nefarious jihadi mindset as the epicentre of terrorism among Islamic countries and elsewhere.
