IS flag-hoisting

Published on:

Sir — The incident of the hoisting of the Islamic State flag in Kashmir valley should not be dismissed either as a non-event or as an act of some ‘idiots’. This may have serious implications when the situation becomes unmanageable and disastrous.

Collateral damages could be in the form of rendering the State’s political and administrative set-up dysfunctional and radicalised, as it happened in the 1980s. Then, anti-nationals and fundamentalists foresaw the gathering storm. They soon used it to their advantage and compelled the Kashmiri Pandits to flee their homes in the valley.

Union Governments in New Delhi had then failed to take note of the development. The result is the present Kashmir crisis. The Modi Government should learn from the mistakes of previous regimes and be stern.
