Sir — This refers to the article, “The road ahead for Sidhu and the BJP” (July 21) by Amitabh Shukla. Navjot Singh Sidhu’s problems with the BJP began during the 2014 lok Sabha elections when he was denied a re-nomination from Amritsar and the seat was offered to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. As Jaitley lost the election, the enitre blame for the defeat was put on Sidhu for he had refused to campaign.
With Sidhu giving up the Rajya Sabha seat, it now emerges that the effort to placate him has not worked. He was possibly expecting a ministerial post in the Modi Government after nomination. Sidhu, a cricketer-turned-politician, would like to go back in time and change some of the statements he made against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). However, in case he joins the AAP, it will be interesting to see what he has to say about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, won’t itIJ
