Sir — This refers to the article, “With Modi’s ascent, India comes of age” (September 19) by Gautam Mukherjee. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s rise and the alarm it has caused in the closed circles of lutyens’ Delhi are similar indeed to Spartacus taking on the mighty Roman Empire.
I agree with the author completely that the ‘intellectual’ opposition to Mr Modi reeks of colonial arrogance which sought to control the mind of the ‘native’, by trying to instil a sense of inferiority. In a recent television debate, Union Minister and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor kept saying that Mr Modi challenges “the idea of India” and “the pluralism and rich diversity of India”. It’s not only the Congress that can articulate these thoughts. There are others too.
