By coining a meaningless word AYUSH, our bureaucrats in the health department have separated the real potent and science of Ayurveda from the health dynamics of the country. Those who have knowledge of the principles and practice of Ayurveda, must be aware of the scope and meaning of the word and philosophy of Ayurveda, which has the potential to encompass worldly knowledge about health and disease. This is similar to other branches of our ancient knowledge which are broad-based and have the space to integrate every modern concept that may be invented/practised anywhere in the world. While the constituents yoga and siddha are very much a part of ancient Ayurveda, unani and homoeopathy are not India-born. The study and practice of unani medicine can be amalgamated under Ayurveda, whereas homeopathy may be allowed to survive on its own strengths.
AYUSH is preventing people from having an integrated approach for their ailments. This will also block aspirant medicos to limit themselves to the stream which is bound to restrain them from utilising their talent in the interest of the health of the country. It is time that the very concept of AYUSH is done away with and an integrated (Ayurveda, modern and medicine) concept serves the needs of national health.
