This refers to the editorial, “Despicable discourse” (November 20). Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s call to remove Prime Minister Narendra Modi from office to improve relations between India and Pakistan, was an insult not only to Mr Modi, but also to the people, who gave him a huge mandate. Surprisingly, during the Congress’s rule of 10 years, relations between India and Pakistan did not improve a bit. Every Government in New Delhi, including the present one, has made sincere efforts to promote friendly relations with Islamabad, but all in vain.
In August 2014, the National Security Advisor level talks between the two countries were called off. Ceasefire violations and cross-border terrorism continue unabated. Terrorist groups like the lashkar-e-Tayyeba, the Taliban etc, are patronised by Pakistan. Improvement in relations with Pakistan under these circumstances is only wishful thinking. Mr Aiyar had an opportunity to grab the moment and do some plain-speaking, but he chose to be silly.
