Innovation and creativity missing in today's writers

This refers to the editorial, “Dubious short-cut to fame” (October 9). The film industry has lost both the power of entrepreneurship as well as the creative impulse to search new ideas to adopt them as the basis of films. Sequels such as Gangs of Wasseypur II, Dhoom II and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns and the remake of Sholay and Zanjeer are a testimony to the fact.

Similarly, writers too suffer from paucity of innovation and creativity. The reworking with classical oeuvres also reaffirms that contemporary writers lack a universal vision of sublimity and originality. Great writers of the earlier times were no copy-cats. They used to seek ideas around them and were enchanting recorders of their age, who made the medley of fact and fiction in such an alluring form that their works joined the shelf of classics. Creative writers need to understand the present scenario well and the ideas will then come naturally to them.
