Sir — This refers to the report, “Manual scavengers’ death shames Delhi” (August 22). It is a shame that manual scavenging still exists in large parts of the country despite widespread awareness campaigns. There are even some women scavengers in some parts of northern States who work for a paltry wage. The prevalence of caste system is the prime reason for the existence of manual scavenging. Media and social organisations should come forward and launch campaigns to end this inhuman practice.
