Inhuman justice

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Re-visiting abortion laws” (August 1). The oft-heard saying that ‘law is blind’ is not very much off the mark. Considering the plight of the innocent 10-year old girl who, on the one hand, has been raped and impregnated by a savage. And on the other, she will have to deliver proof of the savagery and be face to face with his image throughout her life, provided both mother and child survive the ordeal. Both the mother and the child will lead a cursed life.

It would have been better if humane considerations were taken into account while applying the arbitrary laws on termination of pregnancy, which primarily have been made to stop abortion of the foetus of a girl child and not in cases of rape. Above all, the question is: What is the fault of the girl for which she has to suffer throughout her life in this unkind worldIJ The second question is: Should there not be harmony between humanity and law and orderIJ
