Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Don’t raise petty issues” (January 23). The people of Delhi, irrespective of the television-conducted polls, must have been surprised at the decision of Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to sit on a dharna at the slightest pretext. A small issue like the transfer or the suspension of police officials need not have propelled the Chief Minister to hold the people of the national capital to ransom.
If Mr Kejriwal was so true to his words and beliefs, he would have stuck to his earlier stand of asking for the transfer or suspension of both the SHO and the ACP, and would not have been content with officials being sent on paid leave for a short duration. It is only because he has openly declared himself an ‘anarchist’ that politicians like Union Minister for Home Affairs Sushil Kumar Shinde take liberties to term Mr Kejriwal as ‘mad’.
Mr Kejriwal’s inability to smoothly translate from the role of an avid agitator to an effective administrator is hurting Delhi. It seems as if he is waiting with bated breath for the Congress to pull the rug from under his feet and convert him into a martyr. One wonders as to what level he will take the administration if people assign him a bigger role.
