This refers to the article, “Relationship that will not end despite everything” (June 15) by Rajesh Singh. It is disgraceful that even some of the mainstream media outlets like The Pioneer feel obligated to act as South Block's mouthpiece when it comes to foreign relations, in this context, the India-Nepal relationship.
The Madhesi problem in Nepal is nothing but a handful of first-generation Indian immigrants and self-declared India-backed opportunists who have very little support even among the Madhesi people.
After all, their so-called leaders had managed to win only in 11 of 116 constituencies in the Terai region of Nepal in the last general election held in the year 2015. Without South Block's blatant support and the backing of Indian intelligence agencies, they would never have been there in the first place — certainly not at the centre-stage.
While the Indian establishment has followed negative policies with all the adjoining neighbours, sending all of them hurtling towards China, one would expect that, at least, the media would be more independent, candid and honest in its writing. One would expect that the journalism of the sub-continent should hold objectivity above all else.
