This refers to the editorial, “India at 72” (August 15). The editorial critically analysed the state of affairs of India, which as correctly said, will condemn us to another seven decades of under achievement. The reasons for such state of affairs are not too far to seek.
The first is the inherent corruption in society resulting in utter absence of law enforcement in the country. The second is caste-based politics. Third is communal politics, masquerading as secularism, which is coming in the way of taking hard decisions in the interest of the country.
It is discouraging to see the shameful behaviour of increasing numbers of sections of society, who instead of taking pride in marching forward in independent India are demanding to be labeled as backwards to get the doles of reservation.
It is even more disgusting to see various political parties fuelling these demands for the sake of electoral gains. On the same vein, it is very curious to note that the largest minority community, which had ruled the country not long ago, is making great efforts in equating their status with the Dalits in their endeavour to set up a formidable political block to regain power.
let us, therefore, hope that a leader, who is bereft of any personal ambition, comes to power to upliftment the country of the many evils.
