India mustn't interfere in Nepal's affairs

This refers to the editorial, “Nepal gets a new leader” (October 13). It's a highly prejudiced view that you have presented. The onus of improving Nepal-India relations rests solely with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, because it has been his Government that, having tried to unnecessarily and irresponsibly interfere in Nepal's Constitution-making process, imposed a blockade against Nepal — incidentally the third in the last few decades — causing great suffering to 30 million people of the landlocked Himalayan nation. Nothing could be more shocking. It runs contrary to the expectations of the world, which hopes to see the popular Indian leader emerge as a global statesman.

Besides, no Constitution, not even the Constitution of India, is perfect. India has many problems of its own, and it must concentrate on them. There is poverty and there is hunger and social discrimination. India must check its desire to intervene in the affairs of neighbouring countries, especially the smaller ones.
