India must grab chance to isolate Pakistan

This refers to the editorial, “Sharif’s failed diplomacy” (October 24). The Pakistan Army and the Government must be in a state of shock by the way their country’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was snubbed by the US. In recent years, Washington, DC, had provided ample leeway to Pakistan by warming up to its calculated moves. Successive heads of state of Pakistan loved to rake-up the issue of Kashmir with the US and declare to the world the “backing” of the US. However, this time, Washington has cold-shouldered every move of Mr Sharif.

Apparently, Mr Sharif has been told in no uncertain terms on the need for Islamabad to thrash out the contentious issue with India minus outside interlocutors. The much-hyped anti-India dossier seems to have no taker in the US administration. India, which has been on a new-high in its relations with the US, thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, should not let this opportunity of alienating Pakistan go abegging.
