This refers to the article, “In 48 hours, Modi in Israel sets right 70 years of folly” (July 9) by Kanchan Gupta. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Israel is of stupendous significance, arguably the biggest foreign policy breakthrough of his regime. Marking 25 years of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries, our Prime Minister's visit to Israel will emerge as a strong defence strategy. It seems that under Modi's leadership, our country looks set to build an even closer friendship with Israel. India established diplomatic relations with Israel in 1992 and since then the relationship has evolved into a multi-dimensional partnership. Over the decades, the presence of Palestinian students participating in protest politics on the streets of New Delhi has kept Indians informed, and sensitive to the cause.
Jews and Hindus have always shared mutual respect, and they preserve their faith, culture, respect for education and values at large. Jews being the ancient indigenous people of Israel and Hindus being the the same in India, South Asia and West Asia respect each other immensely for our preservation of our respective faiths. There is no doubt that the signing of a strategic partnership on various non-security issues by the two countries would surely give a push to the existing relationship.
