This refers to the editorial, “In search of a new engine” (October 3). It is gratifying to know that the number of Internet users in India will jump from 350 million this year to 650 million by 2020. Technology will bring a change. From using heavy desktops and laptops, people will start using light and smart mobile phones. When this becomes a reality, there will be a revolution in the Indian hinterland. Data will not only be transmitted quickly, but will also become cheap.

Many services are available online as of now. Online services not only makes life easier, but also save time. It is encouraging that Indian Railways, in association will Google, is providing free wi-fi services at as many as 27 stations across the country. However, a lot depends on the project’s successful implementation on a larger scale. India is on the threshold of a digital (quick data transfer) revolution via smartphones, as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
