India failed to respond to US with real force

Published on:

This refers to the article, “When the Indian elephant stirs, US must shake” (December 22) by Chandan Mitra. This, as well as many other articles on the subject, quoting senior Ministers talking of national pride, appears rhetorical at a time when the nation is in the election mode. It is a failure of our intelligence network that a maid's family was evacuated from Indian soil by the Americans. We failed to smell the plot.

Also, we should have moved the targeted Indian diplomat, who is still at the mercy of the biased authorities in New York, out of the US before the controversy broke out. Why could we not evacuate her and then talk from a position of strengthIJ

There are also regional fringe players adding to the tragedy by playing the Dalit card and inviting the insulted diplomat to contest the next lok Sabha election. In view of our failure, the US elephant will continue to sleep in spite of shaking India.
