Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Bengal on the boil” (March 27). Violence on the occasion of Hindu festivals is not new in Mamata-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) dispensation in West Bengal.
There was violence on Ram Navmi day last year also. Ergo, it might be surmised that there is no guarantee of any Hindu festival being passed off peacefully in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s regime.
The TMC Government’s act of banning BJP workers from taking out procession with sword on grounds of them being armed with weapons, which may lead to clashes with the minorities, smacks of religious discrimination as Muslims have never been asked not to brandish knives on the occasion of Muharram.
The editorial has rightly said that foreign infiltration, especially from Bangladesh, is quite rampant in West Bengal and the Government is not taking any pain to curb it, thereby causing it to contribute to a changed demography there, which is detrimental for the country.
As a matter of fact, Mamata Banerjee is seeing the ground slipping from under her feet, owing to the resurgence of the invigorated BJP in the State, as is evident from the recent lok Sabha by-election.
On the other hand, the main Opposition, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has been relegated to the third position and the Congress having gone into oblivion, will never return in near future.
