In Sufi land, there is place for all faiths

This refers to the article, “Where have all the Pirs and Sufi saints goneIJ” (April 18) by Gautam Mukherjee. let us be honest. A large section of the Muslim leadership in undivided India supported MA Jinnah and the formation of Pakistan.

Consequently, when Pakistan was formed in 1947, educated and well-to-do Muslims, supporters of the idea of Pakistan, moved to Pakistan. However, Muslims born after 1947 do not carry the baggage of that bloody and painful Partition. They have grown and progressed as Indians and are a vital part of secular India. All this has happened because the majority community has supported its Muslim brethren. If there are any doubts on this count, then one just needs to recall the fate of minorities in countries like Egypt, Pakistan, Myanmar and even Sri lanka. We have every reason to be proud of our secular credentials. Muslims will be better off under Mr Narendra Modi.

India is the land of Sufi tradition and several saints from Kabir to Sai Baba of Shirdi have spread the love of humanity in true Sufi spirit.
