In prevailing conditions, Congress march justified

Published on:

This refers to the report, “Sonia leads ‘intolerance' march to Prez” (November 4). Who else, other than the fourth estate, can better get to learn about the ‘rising intolerance', which has compelled a number of well-intentioned eminent writers, poets, scholars, scientists and film-makers to return their awards as a sign of protest against the same! More so, the sage advice to maintain and stick to India's aged-old tradition of ‘communal harmony and brotherhood' has also come from President Pranab Mukherjee in this regard.

Hence, the peace march, led by Congress president Sonia Gandhi along with Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and other prominent leaders including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the likes of Mallikarjun Kharge, Ghulam Nabi Azad and AK Antony, from Parliament to the Rashtrapati Bhavan, in protest against ‘growing intolerance' assumes significance and stands justified in the prevailing sorry state of affairs. This is being downplayed by some members of the ruling dispensation.
