Illegal agitations

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Gujjars and the job quota” (May 30). For the time being, it may be a relief that the Gujjars have ended their agitation, based on the Rajasthan Government’s assurance of five per cent reservation in Government jobs.  But similar demands and protests from various quarters are bound to arise in future, especially when Government jobs are so attractive, with lucrative remuneration and guaranteed benefits.

Can the nation continue to afford such strikes that cause enormous hardship to the public and huge losses to the public exchequerIJ  It is high time the Government prohibited all such agitations by suitably amending the existing rules or enacting a new legislation.
