Ignoring sayings

Sir — This refers to the article, “Materialism, the wrong way to human bliss” (December 30) by RK Pachauri. The Mahatma famously said, “Nature provides enough for everybody’s need.” However, in present times, nothing is enough for everybody’s greed. The Acharya of Kanchi Shankaracharya Mutt, venerated as the Mahaperiava, repeatedly discoursed on the need for cutting down on one’s needs. Aparigraham — not owning more than one’s daily needs — is one of the values to be practised according to Hinduism. The Acharya stressed on this value. Unfortunately, there are no takers for it now. If anybody dares talk about it, he will be branded as ‘regressive’.
