According to information in the public domain, since the advent of Islam in the seventh century AD, 20 crore ‘infidels’ have been killed. This figure includes eight crores in India. According to Belgian scholar Koenraad Elst, who has toured Jammu & Kashmir, over 1,000 Kashmiri Hindus have been murdered by jihadi separatists since the 1990s, with the State administration looking the other way.
On the other hand, during the Gujarat violence of 2002, 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus were killed, as was disclosed on the floor of Parliament by the Union Minister for State for Home Affairs in May 2005. Therefore, these riots were not one-sided. It must be emphasised that the Hindus killed were by police bullets and Muslims in counter-violence. Recent media reports also inform that Congress leaders too had participated in these riots. People like Mr Masood must introspect.
