Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Stop the killings” and the report, “Talks with Pak only solution: Mehbooba” (February 13). The editorial has rightly stated that Pakistan can’t be trusted and that it must be dealt with strongly. It is astonishing that Mehbooba Mufti is clearly indifferent to the feelings of her coalition partner in the State, the BJP and is ignoring key facts. It is a known that ever since in power, Prime Minister Modi has gone out of his way to promote friendly, neighbourly relations with Pakistan. Similar efforts were made by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. And what was Pakistan’s responseIJ Attacks on Kargil, Pathankot, Uri and Sunjwan, which killed many civilians and military personnel. By unilaterally insisting on peace talks with Pakistan, Mufti is disregarding the ground reality of our aggressive neighbour.
