Sir — This refers to the report, “Modi rips apart Cong’s burqa” (July 15). The alacrity with which the Congress pounced on the harmless ‘puppy’ remark shows the desperation of the party over the inroads Mr Narendra Modi is making in the electoral battle. It also explains why the likes of Congress leader Digvijaya Singh have sought to distance Mr Rahul Gandhi as a prime ministerial candidate opposite Mr Modi, with the realisation that the former is no match.
The deliberate suppression of news of the relief material sent by the Gujarat Chief Minister to Uttarakhand is another sign of panic. The Congress fails to realise that all such steps are bound to be counter-productive, will boomerang and only generate greater momentum for the ‘Modi for PM’ campaign, just as Mr lK Advani’s attacks on Mr Manmohan Singh in his election campaign proved to be the BJP’s undoing earlier.
The higher the Congress pitches its anti-Modi hysteria, the better it will be for the BJP’s prospects in the coming election.
