Sir — This refers to the article, “Ignoring crucial factor in growth and welfare” (November 14) by Vinayshil Gautam. The function of a human resource management department in any organisation is not just complex and indispensable, but crucial too. Its role is not limited to just recruitment, promotion and retirement, but beyond. It selects personnel who are the most critical assets of any concern. HR is nerve-centre of any organisation.
In the Indian context, there is an ugly shift in this core management function, as in our country, particularly in the public sector, a very large number of human resource functions are headed by people who have moved in laterally from some other unrelated department and do not have any HR qualification.
