Hope the RSS changes in other ways also

This refers to the report, “Change ideology not dress code: Digvijay to RSS” (March 14). It looks like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh may finally embrace a makeover — not of the ideological kind, but in the sartorial department. The Hindutva outfit, which has been synonymous withkhaki shorts for decades now, is ready to replace it with full-length trousers. Shorts of any kind are rarely ‘fashion forward’, but the RSS's version is particularly unstylish. They are pleated and cut to flare out at the bottom. Apparently designed to make even the most muscular legs seem scrawny, and the most slim-lined knees seem knobbly! Changing the uniform is a weighty decision for the RSS.

Whatever the swayamsevaks end up wearing, the RSS, plays a crucial role in the Modi Government. Along with the Prime Minister, there are many leaders from the BJP who are former RSS members. The RSS sees itself as an army battling for India's soul. Along with the ‘shorts' to ‘long trousers', one hope the RSS changes its ideological stance too.
