This refers to the editorial, “BCCI's balancing act” (June 4). The editorial is right in its observation that it would have been an ideal situation had the Board of Control for Cricket in India chief N Srinivasan not acted stubborn and instead ‘stepped down' at the very outset when the spot-fixing and ‘conflict of interest' controversy erupted, severely eroding public faith in the game, the players and the cricket administrators.
However, with former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya taking over as effective chief and Mr Srinivasan ‘stepping aside' till the duration of the probe, one hopes that things will be brought on track.
Mr Dalmiya's job is difficult, as he has to rejig the three-member probe panel, necessitated by the resignation of one of its members, and ensure a free and fair inquiry into the match-fixing allegations. It is to be hoped that the new probe panel will be quickly reconstituted and will set about its business to cleanse the cricket body in an impartial manner and restore some of the sheen that the gentleman's game has lost in recent times.
