It is disheartening to know that the upright, whistleblower IAS officer, Ashok Khemka, who made waves by cancelling the mutation of land deal between Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra and realty giant DlF in October last year, has been shifted once again by the Haryana Government, this time for exposing irregularities in the Haryana Seeds Development Corporation in his brief tenure of five months as its head.
This is his fourth transfer within a year and 44th in his less-than-a-20-year career! It has naturally raised questions about the credibility of the Haryana Government, its functioning and the manner in which the State hounds a sincere official who is merely doing his duty diligently. Honest bureaucrats in this country almost always are meted out a similar treatment from the Government when they unearth scams or corruption. The apex court must intervene to safeguard the bureaucracy from frequent political interference so that officers can work honestly and fearlessly.
