Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Fake messiah of the farmers on warpath” (May 11) by Balbir Punj. The writer has exposed Mr Rahul Gandhi’s hollow concerns for farmers. In 2004, YSR Reddy undertook a similar padyatra and conned the farmers of Andhra Pradesh into believing that then Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was pro-urban and anti-rural. YSR won by a huge margin, but ironically, it was in the years following his victory that farmer suicides touched a record high in Andhra Pradesh.
In the 10 years of UPA rule, what had Mr Gandhi or his party done for the farmersIJ He is now attempting to mislead the people. The Congress’s credibility is at the bottom of the barrel now, and the party vice president’s exercise is bound to end in a whimper.
